When I was little, growing up at 9541 my dad always mowed the lawn, and I do believe that my brother did as well. Then my dad xeriscaped and we had no lawn. In all the other places I have lived someone else took care of the lawn. At the Iris house, when I was a single gal, I xeriscaped - well sort of, I put in all rock. Along came my husband and he said we needed grass, a lawn actually for the kiddos to play on with their friends while we watched from the front porch. So he put in a lawn both in the front yard and the back. Since installation, he has taken care of the lawn beautifully. This summer the back yard will be getting a sprinkler system so it will be even more beautiful and easier to take care of. So my #2 item was to mow the lawn. It's something that I know Robert enjoys and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about.
Last night Robert got home from a long commute back from Pueblo and I told him about my #2 item and it was raining so he wasn't thrilled about it, but he showed me how to mow the lawn. From starting the mower, to how to run it. The lawn didn't turn out perfect, but I did it and it was fun. The pictures will show why you DON'T mow in the rain, the grass clippings get all over the mower and make it messy. And I mowed the opposite way that Robert does because I left all the clippings on the front porch rather than the sidewalk. So when I was down Robert handed me the broom and told me to get sweeping, because cleaning up after mowing is all part of the job. Today I will be cleaning up the mower for him, so the mower will be in pristine condition for when he mows the backyard. I am AOK with doing the dishes, Robert can keep on enjoying mowing the lawn!!
